It is committed to promoting industrialization, innovation and infrastructure – taking into account environmental and social aspects. PALFINGER supports this goal with four material sustainability topics.

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have the goal of counteracting the most important problems of our time, promoting human well-being as well as protecting the environment. PALFINGER aims to contribute to sustainable development and this includes supporting and involving the SDGs in our business activities.

This blog article is about SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. This goal has the following task:

„Building a resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation“

More than half of the world’s population lives in cities – and the number is rising. In this context, the topics of mass transportation and renewable energies are gaining importance. Furthermore, the growth of new industries and advanced information and communication technologies is an important potential that needs to be exploited.

Building new, greener infrastructures, upgrading existing infrastructure systems and using new smart technologies not only creates jobs but can also help protecting the environment. The promotion of sustainable industries and investment in research and development are all ways of supporting sustainable development.

PALFINGER’s contribution to SDG 9

PALFINGER strives to always align its business model to current trends, and invests in research and development in order to remain viable for the future. Through innovation, we improve production processes as well as the safety of our products. This happens, for example, by using virtual reality applications. A further focus is to enhance the efficiency of our products. This contributes to environmental protection.

We address the SDGs with four sustainability areas: ‚Responsible employer‘, ‚Eco-efficiency in production‘, ‚Sustainable products‘ and ‚Fair business‘. SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure is served by the areas ‘Eco-efficiency in production, ‘Sustainable products’ as well as ‘Fair business’. PALFINGER can make a direct contribution with four material sustainability topics:

Product research and development

PALFINGER is increasingly investing in product research and development and is offering the latest technologies.

Research and development as well as innovations increase user friendliness, safety and efficiency of PALFINGER products.

In order to maintain or expand our leading position in technology or service, we are accelerating research and development in terms of products, systems and processes. Mechatronics remains an important topic in product development. Digitalization is increasingly being used in product solutions. The main topics of digitalization are automation, connectivity as well as data and analytics.

Innovation in production

PALFINGER increases sustainable innovations and technologies in the production process in order to improve efficiency.

Our R&D activities focus not only on product solutions but also on processes and PALFINGER’s organization itself. These activities are carried out in a targeted and long-term manner. Industry 4.0 is increasingly being used in production processes. Cooperation and open innovation support new approaches.

Viability of business model

PALFINGER ensures that its business model is long-term, future-oriented and actively pursues trends. We make a contribution to society.

The three strategic pillars of Innovation, Internationalization and Flexibility have already enabled our worldwide profitable growth in recent years. In order to be able to focus on the challenges and opportunities of the digital transformation, the proven strategy has been supplemented by a fourth pillar: PALFINGER 21st stands for new core competencies, new approaches, new products, new services and new business models in the digital age.

PALFINGER’s Vision: Together we are shaping the future of our customers’ lifting solutions.

Industry 4.0 and Digitalization

PALFINGER is increasingly devoting itself to digitalization and connectivity from machines to suppliers. In this context, we ensure the responsible use of information.

Digitalization is seen as a decisive factor for the future viability of our business model and thus as part of our corporate strategy. With the new strategic pillar PALFINGER 21st, the digital future was integrated into the corporate strategy.

Digitalization will change PALFINGER products and services. The sensitive handling of data is thereby also important. Digital solutions will change the products and our production processes, and new business models will emerge.
