For PALFINGER, bauma is much more than just a trade fair. It is a modern platform for dialogue that actively involves existing and potential customers. In 2019, this was clear to see at every turn at the stand in Munich.
At any rate, demand was huge – particularly where the visitors were able to set up, try out and test VR glasses themselves, be it in VR simulators, along the interactive service wall or using the Smart Eye applications as part of augmented-reality support
. Another highlight was the Smart Boom Control, which, thanks to intelligent control electronics, makes it possible to move the crane into any vertical or horizontal position with just a single lever.
However, the digital innovations were not the only ones to make an impression. There was continued interest in the entire PALFINGER product range. The new models in the TEC and SLD range were also eye-catchers at the trade fair. As well as the ever-popular truck-mounted forklifts, the first electrically operated PALFINGER access platform and a world first in the form of the PCC 57.002 crawler crane – a real all-rounder that is as indispensable on steep terrain as it is in the urban jungle.
There was no escape from the megatrend that is digitalization
The extent of digitalization among traditional products was particularly striking at this year’s PALFINGER stand. For example, the PH T20 A TEC 5 hookloader was used to demonstrate how the smart combination of a 3D camera with integrated object detection – the Intelligent Loading Assist system – coupled with the PAD-Touch controller improves the safety, convenience and efficiency of movements.
However, not only does digitalization take the form of new control and assistance systems that optimize use and capacity utilization, but it also manifests itself in connected telematics systems that take service and support to a whole new level. The same goes for processes such as device handover for access platforms for the rental business, where digital tools such as ‘instructable’ make processes simpler and more transparent for everyone involved. Pioneering joint venture STRUCINSPECT, which is making the use of artificial intelligence in structural inspections a reality, is proof that new business models are also becoming possible in this context

High demand at the PALFINGER product show
In summary, this year’s bauma again lived up to expectations as an ‘important trendsetter for the industry.’ This is a sentiment shared by Andreas Klauser, CEO of PALFINGER AG, commenting, ‘We think that this is the ideal platform to showcase our innovative solutions in the fields of digitalization and smart service, as well as our wide and diverse product range, to an industry audience.’
Last but not least, host Florian guaranteed another trade fair highlight four times a day, providing practical insight into the world of PALFINGER products. New to the PALFINGER trade fair stand was Pepper, an unusually ‘friendly’ robot that was well received by both young and old, and welcomed visitors to our INNOVATION AREA, the centrepiece of PALFINGER’s trade fair appearance, as well as answering their questions.
