The Iceberg Innovation Leadership Award honours sustainable innovations by Austrian companies and was presented for the second time at this year’s 9th Austrian Innovation Forum. PALFINGER Structural Inspection GmbH and VCE Vienna Consulting Engineers ZT GmbH won the competition with STRUCINSPECT, the digital system for bridge inspection.

STRUCINSPECT – a bridge’s 3D twin

As the newest member of the PALFINGER Group, STRUCINSPECT is set to revolutionise bridge inspection and bring extra added value. This innovative idea combines state-of-the-art data collection with artificial intelligence and enables work to be planned with supreme precision

. An accurate picture of the external and internal condition of the structure and its capacity is created in the form of a digital 3D twin for the bridge. This 3D twin enables the structures to be inspected more quickly and significantly more efficiently, which in turn has a positive effect on their operation. PALFINGER customers are thus offered an integrated system that delivers more efficiency, safety and time savings.

PALFINGER wins the race

The Iceberg Innovation Leadership Award was presented at the ERSTE Campus in Vienna on 17 October 2019. From a total of 25 submissions, the best six companies were nominated in advance by a panel of judges. They then presented their sustainable solutions to the audience at the 9th Austrian Innovation Forum. STRUCINSPECT stood out from the competition and won the award.

An internal PALFINGER idea that could create careers

The idea for this originated in the Railway global product line, which was the first to become aware of the new technical possibilities. Through the implementation of its PALFINGER 21st division, which deals with new technologies and promotes unusual approaches, this idea was developed and implemented by STRUCINSPECT in cooperation with Vienna Consulting Engineers ZT GmbH and the ANGST GROUP.
