PALFINGER South Africa have recently delivered three more CR 253 Truck Mounted Forklifts to Infrabuild Cement from Middleburg who are producing and delivering bags of cement into very remote areas of the Northern part of the country. Previously they unloaded the trucks by hand which sometimes took up to a full day to off-load one large truck.
They obviously needed a more efficient solution, therefore PALFINGER South Africa offered them a CR unit for demonstration and accompanied the forklift with the first loads, to monitor its progress and ensure the driver was comfortable with the machines operation. It was a huge success and they decided to buy the demo unit, almost immediately. It is now possible to unload a full interlink combination in about 45 minutes and the overall success has resulted in the company ordering two additional units.
With the challenge of very rough terrain, demanding working conditions and sometimes long travel distances, the CR 253 is perfectly suited for the job and has dramatically improved the delivery process for both the transporter and their end customers.
CR 253 – all-wheel drive with hydrostatic transmission
Because the CR 253 can handle loads up to 2.5 tons in weight, the pallets of cement are kept intact and placed exactly where the customer needs it. This significantly improves the security of the product and damages are minimised as double handling is eliminated. The cement distributor’s customers are equally impressed with the introduction of the Truck Mounted Forklift equipment and this has led to additional business and increased customer loyalty.
The CR 253 is extremely robust and has been designed to optimise durability and performance in heavy-duty applications. The unit is fitted with a 48HP Deutz engine which is combined with an all-wheel-drive, hydrostatic transmission.
The machine is mounted at the rear of the trailer on a purpose-built mounting kit which enables the unit to be easily mounted or dismounted in less than one minute.

Depending on the truck or trailer configuration and overall length regulations the units can be securely mounted at the rear or on top of the trailer bed using a specially designed mounting kit, in around one minute. PALFINGER’s range of Truck Mounted Forklifts which are manufactured in Austria, can be found in a wide range of applications, including building materials, lawn turf, beverage, scaffolding and industrial gases. The unique BM (Box Mounted) version is remote controlled and is also growing in popularity particularly in applications where restricted overall height is an issue.
